“Hello, Dolly!” arrives in the country with a stellar cast

The iconic Broadway musical " Hello , Dolly!" comes to the Dominican Republic in a fun version with an all-star cast.

The play, which debuted on Broadway in 1964 and has since been adapted in several countries and various languages, will be performed starting July 18 in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, under the general and artistic production of Marcos Malespín-Estévez .

The production stars the renowned actress and singer Cecilia García , who will take on the leading role of matchmaker Dolly Levi , the focus of this fascinating story, and the prominent showman Carlos Alfredo Fatule will play the temperamental and charismatic Horacio Vandergelder , one of the most striking characters in the plot.

The cast is completed by Javier Grullón, Laura Rivera, Luz García, Carolina Jiménez, Roger Manzano, Axel Mansilla, Paula Ferry and Miguel Lendor (Papachín).

"We are thrilled to present this play with such a talented cast. Dominican audiences will experience an unforgettable experience ," said Marcos Malespín-Estévez about the project.

When approached by Diario Libre , he commented that he attended a revival of the play in 2017 and fell in love. "When I left the play, I only had Cecilia in mind to play Dolly. It wasn't something planned, and eight years later, through projects we've worked on together, I had the opportunity to become close to her, and today we're announcing Hello , Holly!"

  • The architect and photographer said that the dramaturgy will be respected and that there will be variations in the spectacular nature of the costumes, which evoke the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century .

"I feel satisfied and very honored. Working with Cecilia García is a dream come true . The entire cast is super talented. I can be stressed, but when I get to rehearsal and see them truly singing, I get emotional. I'm very grateful," he concludes.

The versatile artist Cecilia García takes on the role of the sparkling Dolly Levi, originally portrayed by stage actress Carol Channing in 1964 and brought to the big screen by the great Barbra Streisand in 1969.

"It's a beautiful musical for the whole family, with gorgeous music and exquisite dancing. It's full of color, lights, and a wonderful cast," the actress and singer emphasized.

"These young actors have given me the greatest satisfaction of my career. They've all had so much talent, discipline, professionalism, and above all, so much human quality: they love what they do, they're colleagues, and no one is a bigger star, no matter how small the role. They all become bigger."

What does Cecilia García add to Dolly to elevate it even further? This is how she responded:

"The characters, deep down, always resemble you in some way... Dolly is a very extroverted woman, who sings and dances, who looks for things and I like to be a little extroverted too, so you create a similarity and I have to believe that I am Dolly to play her" Cecilia García Artist

Carlos Alfredo Fatule , considered a " showman ," joins forces with Cecilia García for the first time in this duo. What will be experienced on stage is an overflow of theatricality .

Carlos Alfredo, who recently successfully presented his play "Perseguidos" at the National Theater, emphasized that his role as Horacio Vandergelder is very entertaining because it shows his interest in finding a wife by hiring a matchmaker who genuinely wants to marry him.

He said that he and Cecilia are very similar due to their multiple facets and recalled that the late librettist and comedian Milton Peláez selected them to play many characters and comedy sets.

He confessed that it had always been his dream to work with her in musical theater . He tried once, but couldn't because of a tour, "but this time it happened," he said.

"Being with Cecilia García is like walking on a red carpet all the time; it's knowing that you have someone at your side who is confident, very demanding; therefore, you have to be very demanding as well and do it with the greatest possible excellence to live up to that tremendous artist" Carlos Alfredo Fatule Artist "
